Novice Taxidermy Questions?
I came across a recently decayed coyote skeleton and decided to take the skull and try and clean it up and turn it into decor for my new apartment. The skull is clean, minor cartilage still attached, about the size of an eraser head, but nothing I'm going to sweat it. Already scrubbed off the dirt, dipped it in bleach for 3 hours. I'm happy with how white it turned out. Some of the teeth fell out, but they came out clean. I feel as though I can glue them back in, to where no one can tell they fell out.
My questions are:
What kind of glue should I use for the teeth?
Should I remove the sponge like material in the sinus?
I'm thinking wood glue for the teeth but am unsure about the sinus. I feel like I should remove the things in the sinus, but I'm not sure if that's the proper procedure, or if it will look better.
What you are doing it not really classed as "Taxidermy" to be honest.
You are just cleaning up a skull for preservation.
I would use superglue for the teeth though, as it will not take too much to hold them in place. Also, wood glue can deteriorate if it is hot (not sure where in the world you live).
As for the sinus, I would leave it there, unless you really want to be picky and take it out. You can remove it pretty easily and then file off any pieces left over with a small nail file or something like that.
